Known near and far as the home of “The Dish” and “The Parkes Elvis Festival”. Parkes has more to offer than a couple of world-class events. Located in the Central West Region of New South Wales, Parkes is well positioned for a relaxed lifestyle with plenty to do.
Â
Industry has been a cornerstone of the town’s growth, beginning as a gold rush ‘canvas’ town. The focus changed to farming in the 1900s, which has not slowed down. As the town has grown, so has its importance in domestic and international trade, quickly becoming a hub for freight and logistics, resource recovery, value-added agriculture and renewable energy. Today, canola fields can be seen flowering in magnificent blankets of yellow during late August/ September, and mining continues to play a role in the local economy.
Â
With one of the most substantial sporting communities in the central west, it would be hard to find a day of the week where you could not participate in a team sport. For those who enjoy setting their own pace, Parkes has ample space to get outdoors with walking and cycling tracks spread across the town and fifty separate parks, reserves and ovals to enjoy along the way.
Parkes prides itself on welcoming people seeking a tree change; it is a progressive and caring community that also possesses a beautiful sense of fun and inclusiveness. Housing is available at a fraction of the NSW median house price, giving locals, new and old, the opportunity to spend more on the things they love.
