About the Opportunity

Murray River Council is seeking a Work Health and Safety (WHS) Professional who will play an integral role in advancing the Council’s WHS objectives. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, the focus of this position is to provide both operational and strategic management of WHS at Murray River Council to ensure our community, staff, stakeholders (including volunteers and contractors), and our operations are safe, efficient, and compliant.

You will play a key role in supporting the management and staff of Murray River Council to maintain a safe and compliant workplace. A portion of this role will be on-site with our crews and contractors, conducting audits, improvement coaching, and risk management.

You will provide proactive assistance with inspections, recommendations, training, and compliance efforts related to WHS across all operational activities. You will also ensure appropriate support for WHS programs, equipment, and reporting requirements. Most importantly, as a role model, you will play a pivotal part in driving a positive safety culture.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

We are looking for someone with extensive knowledge of relevant WHS legislation and standards, ensuring the Council remains informed of changes in legislation and best practices, and implementing these in accordance with policy.

With at least three years of experience in a WHS role, you will have a strong background in safety audits and improvement practices on worksites. You will have comprehensive knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Codes of Practice.

Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated experience in implementing health and safety management systems and providing advice to managers and staff regarding best practice WHS matters. Proficiency in WHS online system management is also essential.

The successful candidate will also require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • National Police Check
  • Pre-employment Medical
