The opportunity

The Sundry Gang Labourer will provide labour in the day-to-day operations of the Council Works Sundry Team and assist the Delivery Coordinator to ensure the works program is completed and in compliance with Council's corporate goals, objectives, and standards in the construction of quality infrastructure services for Federation Council.

In this role you will:

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the following: culverts, signs, table drains, corridor clearing, footpaths, kerb and guttering, guidepost, fencing, line marking and roadside furniture.
  • Operate Council plant and equipment as required, in accordance with licences held and in a safe manner.
  • Carry out inspections and locate any public utilities, services, trees, obstacles, fences and the like.
  • Perform Traffic Control Management duties as required and ensure that necessary temporary warning signs are in place and visible in accordance with Traffic Control Plans prior to commencement of works.

Essential criteria to be addressed in applications

  • Hold a current and valid Medium Rigid (MR) Licence with experience in civil construction activities associated with signs, culverts, potholes, roadside furniture, fencing and footpaths, and the construction of kerbs and gutters.
  • Hold a Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Manage time, set priorities as well as plan and organise work to achieve set objectives in the most efficient way possible within the available resources and timeframe.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative in solving problems, improving methods and productivity and ability to seek guidance where required.
  • Good verbal communications skills and the capacity to deal with employees and the public effectively and contributing to a positive and vibrant workplace culture.
  • A demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) in a high-risk work environment.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment.  The wage commences at $1,092.90 per week plus Award allowances, with progression up to $1,206.30 per week plus Award allowances dependent upon skills and experience.
