What we are
looking for

We are seeking
an experienced Supervisor to join Council’s Community Directorate. This role completes a variety of tasks which includes
supervisory, technical and manual labour duties related to the operational
maintenance of parks, streetscapes, cemeteries, and recreational facilities in
compliance with established standards.

This is an
exciting opportunity to work with an ever-changing dynamic team within the Mid-Western Regional Council.

This role is full-time, based in Mudgee.

The salary range being offered for this full-time position is $2633-$2963 gross per fortnight plus superannuation and allowances which equates to an annual salary of $68,458- $77038 gross plus superannuation and allowances (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).

Key
Accountabilities

  • Provide
    daily supervision of outdoor crews and contractors in the execution of
    operational maintenance activities effectively within time, works program
    requirements and budget constraints
  • Assist
    the Coordinator Parks and Gardens in developing and implementing detailed
    operational maintenance programs
  • Undertake
    communication systems that foster open and transparent communication amongst
    management and works crews, including accurately communicating works programs
    and regular toolbox talks
  • Implement
    Parks and Gardens asset inspection program and schedule rectification
    activities for any known asset defects
  • Assist
    the Coordinator Parks and Gardens in the development and review Safe Work
    Method Statements and relevant procedures
  • Maintain
    excellent public relations, by ensuring public inquiries and works requests are
    responded in a courteous manner and complaints are addressed promptly. Where
    appropriate, refer inquiries to the Coordinator Parks and Gardens
  • Complete
    relevant administration tasks including (not limited to) daily diary notes,
    work programming documentation, site risk assessments, pre-start checks, asset
    inspection checklists, incident reports, purchase orders, basic computer skills
    in-line with relevant Council procedures
  • Provide
    advice to Council, Council staff and residents on horticultural/landscaping
    matters as required
  • Oversee
    and carry out daily and weekly maintenance of vehicles and equipment as
    determined by Councils Fleet and Workshop department
  • Supervise
    and perform Cemetery maintenance and service-related activities, including but
    not limited to marking basing, opening and closing graves, locating graves, and
    assisting with public enquiries
  • Oversee
    and carryout tree maintenance activities including completing visual tree
    assessments
  • Ensure
    all maintenance and works are completed to an acceptable level and within
    Council policies and procedures
  • Attend
    training sessions as required and assist with identifying training needs of
    works crews
  • Other
    duties and responsibilities as directed within the skill and abilities of the
    individual
  • To
    actively promote and demonstrate the core values and behavioural requirements
    of the Workplace Environment Statement

Selection criteria

  • HR class drivers licence 
  • Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent qualification/experience 
  • Minimum two years’ experience in horticulture/landscaping/turf management
  •  Minimum two years’ experience in leading, motivating and supervising a number of staff 
  • Minimum two years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of horticultural plant and ground
    maintenance equipment
  • Possession of or ability to obtain (within six months) Traffic Control Certificate (worksite planning)
    and Chemical Application Certificate (ChemCert AQF3)
  • Flexibility to be available for emergency call-outs when not rostered
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety responsibilities and a commitment to attending relevant
    WHS training
