The right person

We’re looking for a planning professional with the drive to take their career and their skills to the next level and make a difference within a regional council where you will be involved in the assessment of major infrastructure projects; State significant agricultural activities; large industrial developments; housing subdivisions to support growth of our communities; and a range of residential, commercial and recreation developments.

Working as part of a team of professionals with well-developed skills and experience across a range of sectors, you will provide high quality planning and development services including strategic land use planning; development assessment; enforcement and regulatory services; education; and advisory services.

The role

The role provides opportunities to assess a wide range of development proposals; contribute to the development and implementation of planning, environmental and infrastructure strategies; review and improve development control documents, policies and procedures; and to mentor and guide other team members.

Opportunity exists to act in management roles within the Directorate, depending on your skills and interest.

This newly created position will enable you to apply your skills as part of a supportive and experienced team. The Senior Planning Officer position has extensive determination delegations and some financial delegations, recognising the seniority of the position and its contribution to achieving our goals.

Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and extensive demonstrated experience in Land Use Planning and Development Assessment in a Local Government environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the areas of Land Use Planning, including, Planning Proposals, Local Environmental Plan, Development Control Plans and Development Assessment.
  • Proven ability to understand and assess complex technical issues, and write clear, concise reports that provide recommendations based on detailed assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, including dealing with complex issues and an ability to negotiate and mediate on contentious matters. Capacity to work with and deliver agreed outcomes on behalf of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Current and valid Class C Driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the capability requirements of this position as defined in the capability statement in the position description.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $3,671.60 per fortnight with progression up to $4,052.60 per fortnight. Salary is negotiable depending on the successful candidates’ qualifications, experience, and skills.
