‘Quirky and diverse’ is not usually the phrase that springs to mind when city slickers think of regional Australia. But that’s exactly what Sarah Thomson and her partner Bec found when they made the move from Melbourne to Shepparton, in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley.
“I moved for a great work opportunity with the local water authority,” Sarah says, and found that there is so much more to the rich agricultural region than its fruit, vegetables, dairy and cereal products.
“One of the things I love about Shepparton is the community feel of the place which is strongly supported by businesses in the area and great leadership,” Sarah says.
“There is always something to get involved in and contribute to. I love being involved in building a bright future for our community.”
The couple has also been busy building their “own little paradise,” having traded a one-bedroom inner-city flat for a “gorgeous house which backs onto a stunning red gum floodplain,” Sarah says.
“It has a beautiful garden and we’ve built a freshwater pool.
“We have found our forever place in this quirky, diverse, community-oriented town,” she says.
“We absolutely love it!”
