Regional Australia isn’t what it used to be – but in a good way.
Michelle Wishart returned to the area around Dubbo in New South Wales after 20 years away and was “blown away by the growth of the city and all that has changed over the years.”
“I am very impressed with the delicious places to eat, the accessibility to get to Dubbo, the growth and development in the area, as well as the job opportunities,” Michelle says.
After three years in Darwin, she’s also enjoying the weather.
“It’s nice to have four seasons again!” she says.
Michelle made the move to Dubbo with her employer, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, to take up a new position managing the organisation’s Visitor Experience Centre.
Having family and friends in the Central West region made the decision easier.
“I was born and bred in Lithgow and also lived in Orange. It was partly work-related and wanting to be closer to aging family members,” she explains. “Also, country people are more friendly,” she laughs.
Michelle says the Dubbo and Wellington New Residents’ Guide provided a wealth of information in getting to know her new hometown, a thriving hub at the junction of three highways in the beautiful Macquarie Valley.
“Dubbo’s got all of the things you could want – great eateries, cafes, shops and lovely parks. It’s a family-friendly hospitable place, the people here are so welcoming. It’s place where you feel really welcomed to be part of the community.”
