About the role
At Wollongong Council, our extensive fleet of plant, equipment and vehicles provides a fantastic opportunity to broaden your skills and experience with the ongoing maintenance of these assets. Our modern fleet, and excellent facilities allow you to keep up to date in this constantly evolving industry.
In this essential role, you will be responsible for prioritising and scheduling the maintenance and repairs of Council owned, leased and contracted vehicles, heavy vehicles, plant, equipment and mechanical engineering infrastructure assets to meet operational needs. This will maximise the utilisation of Council's mechanical assets to ensure best practice customer experience and support efficient budget use.

- The flexibility of working a 70-hour 9-day fortnight with regular roster day off.

This position is can be physically demanding, and you must be capable of undertaking the duties associated with the role as described in the job description.
What you will be doing:
Maximising the utilisation of Council's mechanical assets, budget and customer service, you will prioritise and schedule the ongoing maintenance and repair of these assets. This includes:
- Implementing scheduled maintenance programs for mechanical equipment, using contemporary asset maintenance systems.
- Monitoring asset performance, increase reliability, implementing change from reactive to proactive maintenance, benchmark service costs and reduce cost base.
- Devising and implementing regular inspection systems of mechanical equipment
About you:
- You are a qualified Trade Mechanic with hands-on work experience.
- You excel at handling fast-paced work environments, staying ahead of tasks, managing details and responsibilities efficiently.
- You bring strong communication skills to liaise effectively with team members, manufacturers, suppliers, and stakeholders within the broader Council team.
- A key attribute you possess is collaboration, working closely with team members to achieve collective goals and maintain high operational standards.
- You have comprehensive workshop experience with an expertise in maintenance scheduling, and project management skills.
