Salary Range: $1,712 - $1,954 per 35 hour week (Including 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance) + superannuation

Monthly RDO. Leaseback vehicle available. Housing may be available.

 

The Water Project Manager is responsible for providing planning, technical advice and management of project activities to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the contract requirements and within the nominated constraints for time, cost, quality, safety and the environment.

As Water Project Manager, you will ensure all activities are undertaken with the safety of people as the number one priority and at all times modelling safe behaviour. This role will include reviewing, interpreting and providing advice on technical/engineering reports, models and drawings. You will manage the full lifecycle of a variety of projects, including:

  • prepare project plans and programs including budgets, scopes of work, financial control throughout the project lifecycle,
  • monitor, control, report and document all aspects of project performance, budget, risks and issues and the physical process of projects against the approved project plan. 
  • prepare and assess tender documentation, submissions, proposals and quotes and preparing purchase orders and contracts for relevant engagements. 
  • review and recommend approval of subcontract and supplier invoices and claims
  • ensure all construction works comply with the plans and specifications
  • take ownership of project finalisation including the preparation of practical completion certificates and asset handover forms.

In this role you will be a key link between consultants, Council staff and external agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. Your expert knowledge will assist in Council's strategic planning and ensure the delivery of critical water and sewer services to the local communities.  

To succeed in the position, you will have extensive experience in managing and delivering projects, ideally in water and sewer. A degree in engineering would be ideal but you absolutely must have a strong desire to have a career as a water professional. You will have a comprehensive and demonstrable understanding of project management principles and processes, with experience in large projects. This position is located in Coolah, although some time in the Coonabarabran office will be required and can be accommodated for up to 3 days per week, so you can be located in either Coolah or Coonabarabran.

Coolah is situated on the picturesque Coolaburragundy River and nestled in a valley of the Liverpool Range. The town is surrounded by undulating hills and fertile river flats and is an attractive service town for the surrounding agricultural district. Only an hour south east of Coonabarabran, close to major centres of Dubbo and Mudgee, and with the nearby Coolah Tops National Park offering rugged natural beauty and adventure, Coolah delivers the best of country living.

Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its magnificent landscape and stunning night skies. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.

Selection Criteria Include

  • Degree qualified engineer or extensive equivalent experience as a project manager preferably with either experience in delivering water and sewer projects or strong desire to start a career as a water professional
  • In-depth understanding of project management principles and processes
  • Demonstrated experience in project management with knowledge of project construction and contract management and tender evaluation procedures
  • Demonstrated experience managing time, cost and risk while meeting stated objectives and project goals
  • Ability and experience in large projects, including development of comprehensive project plans, charters and business cases
  • In depth understanding of risk management and its role in managing project fundamentals such as time, cost, quality, safety and the environment
  • Strong communication and organisation skills including demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
