Volunteer Project Officer

  • Maximum term 18 months
  • Work 70 hours per fortnight

The opportunity

Volunteers are an integral part of our community. We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative person to join our corporate team in developing and implementing a volunteer management framework that;

  • Supports and protects volunteers to continue the valuable work they undertake on behalf of Council
  • Meets the organisation’s policy and legislative requirements
  • Supports the development of a culture of safety and wellbeing throughout the organisation and community 

    In this role you will:

  • Lead the development of volunteer management strategies, policies, systems and programs in collaboration with the Manager People & Culture.
  • Develop and implement a relevant training program for S355 Committee members and key Council contacts.
  • Ensure Council’s volunteer management policies and procedures are adequately developed, and communicated.
  • Provide regular reporting on S355 Committee activities.
  • Attend and participate in S355 committee and community meetings and forums as required. Some of which may be out of hours.
  • Review policies and procedures that apply to volunteers supporting other Council services.

Criteria

  1. Qualifications and/or experience relevant to the role including understanding of NSW Local Government practices
  2. Sound knowledge of statutory requirements of various acts and regulations relevant to the position including experience in risk assessment of projects, activities and tasks
  3. Capacity to show initiative in planning and developing new ideas and approaches; an ability to implement and communicate change effectively
  4. Advanced user of a range of software packages such as, MS Word, Email systems, Internet searching and Records Management systems such as Content Manager (TRIM)
  5. Proven ability to be an effective problem solver by adopting a broad range of skills and strategies
  6. Proven ability to develop and implement frameworks/strategies, information systems, policies and procedures

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment.  The salary will commence at $1,385.40 per week which is a Grade 17 in our salary system.
