Trainee Treatment Plant Operator

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Engineering Department at Cobar Shire Council as a Trainee Treatment Plant Operator. This role provides a hands-on experience across the many facets of water management including filtration, treatment, testing and distribution.

The successful applicant will be able to kick start their career with on the job delivery of a Certificate III in Water Treatment (NWP30315) combined with full time employment for the duration of the two-year traineeship.

Completion of the traineeship may lead to ongoing employment as a qualified Water Treatment Operator for Council.

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Provisional Drivers’ license (minimum)
  • Construction induction (white) card
  • Sound results at school in maths and science
  • Commitment to and capable of completing Certificate III in Water Treatment via online delivery
  • Ability to work in a team environment with good time management skills
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Be proficient in the use of computers and learning new software
  • Have the physical fitness to undertake general labouring tasks
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, and able follow instructions

Applicants must provide a cover letter outlining how they meet the above criteria together with a current resume.

This position is full time for a fixed-term period of two years and will be classified depending on the age and existing qualifications of the applicant T4 - T5 ($22.11 - $25.30 per hour) in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award, working a nine day fortnight, 38 hours per week. 

The successful candidate would commence in January 2025.
