About the role

Are you passionate about green spaces and looking to kick-start your career as a qualified Horticulturist, Gardener or Landscaper? Great news! The City is now accepting applications from candidates interested in completing a two-year traineeship in Cert III Parks & Gardens.

We are searching for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to make a positive impact in the Coffs Coast community. If you are passionate about learning and ready to apply your natural talents and skills to real-life situations, then we'd love to have you on board!

As a Trainee Horticultural Services with the City, you will work at various Open Space facilities including Botanical Gardens and Cemeteries, supporting the city's mowing, horticultural, and weed teams. Your responsibilities will include tasks such as mowing, planting, mulching, fertilising, spraying, and watering. This traineeship will provide you with the expertise to contribute to the creation of liveable cities by providing healthy environments and protecting natural habitats. You will learn to create and maintain green environments that are both beautiful and functional, including parks, gardens, and nurseries.

Throughout your traineeship, you will work alongside knowledgeable and experienced horticulturalists and supervisors, getting involved in daily worksite activities and safely carrying out horticulture duties. It's an exciting opportunity to grow and learn in a supportive environment.

The start date for this traineeship is flexible (e.g. 2025) depending on the circumstances of the successful candidate.

About you?

  • The successful candidate will possess a willingness to undertake and successfully complete a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens through a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training. In addition, you must be willing to obtain a Whitecard as part of this traineeship.
  • Demonstrated reliability
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and follow instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake gardening, labouring and horticultural tasks including the use of small plant e.g. blowers, mowers, brush cutter, power sprays.

What's on offer?

  • Between $687.10 and $803.30 per week (depending on age) + 11.5% superannuation
  • Temporary two-year Full-Time position 38 hours per week.
  • Scope for performance-based salary increases in line with the completion of studies.
  • Support throughout your studies and reimbursements for learning materials and textbooks.
  • Ongoing training and development throughout your qualification.
