Town Planner - Building and Environmental Health

Our Building and Environmental Health Team is seeking an experienced Town Planner for a 2-year contract. The position is instrumental in the end-to-end management of development applications, including recommending the application for approval/refusal and associated follow up processes.
About the role:
- process development applications in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act
- undertake site inspections and a comprehensive review of applicable records, site history, planning legislation, codes and SEPPs to ensure an accurate determination
- assist with Complying Development pre-lodgments and the non-BCA issues for Complying Development Certificate applications
- provide excellent customer service to our stakeholders, providing advice on environmental planning instruments and policy matters

We are seeking:
- degree or post-graduate Town Planning qualifications
- competence and experience in the assessment of development applications within a government framework
- a co-operative approach in a team environment
- excellent communication skills
- the ability to prioritise and handle conflicting deadlines

Where it's located:
This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

1. Degree or Post-Graduate Town Planning qualifications.
2. Eligible for membership of Planning Institute of Australia.
3. Demonstrated high level competence and experience in the assessment of residential development applications whilst employed within a government framework.
4. Demonstrated experience in LEP and DCP preparation.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Extensive knowledge of NSW planning legislation and regulation, to ensure that accurate assessments and determinations are made.
7. Demonstrated capacity to deal with sensitive development and planning matters.
8. Exceptional customer service and the ability to clearly explain determinations, the need for additional information and any major planning constraints.
9. Excellent time management and organisational skills to ensure timely assessments.
10. The position incumbent is required to be eligible to hold a current NSW Drivers Licence.
Desirable:
11. Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior staff.
