We are seeking experienced Town Maintenance Officers for our Parks and Environment Team. These roles assist in the daily maintenance of Parks and Reserves, roads, drainage, reticulation systems and other works within the Shire town sites and surrounds. As part of the Shire's town maintenance crew, you will operate plant and equipment to successfully complete jobs.
In this role you will have the following accountabilities:
- Assist the Team to maintain projects that enhance or modify shire roads, drainage and traffic infrastructure, township parks, sporting facilities, public open space, reserves, streets, ablutions and shire facilities.
- Horticultural duties such as garden maintenance, pruning, replanting, mulching and litter collection.
- Safely apply Pesticides and Herbicides in broadacre (verge), sports field park settings using manual and mechanical sprayers (ute mounted spray rigs).
- Operates power tools such as line trimmers, chainsaws and leaf blowers.
- Applies fertilisers, pesticides/herbicides and soil amendments to parks, gardens and reserves, as required.
- Assists with maintenance activities associated with sports fields, playgrounds and active spaces.
- Proactively promote Safety by identifying and manage risks either by adopting safe working practices, undertaking preventative maintenance or reporting risks and issues to the appropriate person.
Our preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate the following experiences and skillset:
- Current 'C' Class Driver's Licence (applicable to Western Australia)
- First Aid certification (Provide First Aid).
- Basic Worksite Traffic Management accreditation.
- White Card.
- Experience working in outdoor environments.
- Demonstrated experience within a similar role or industry.
- Experience with hand tools and power operated equipment.
- Understandings of WHS legislative requirements within the workplace.
- Ability to undertake and follow instructions as directed.
- Ability to work within a team based environment under limited supervision.
- Understanding of horticulture principles including gardening and mowing.
- Possesses a spray technicians licence or has significant demonstrated experience applying herbicides/pesticides.
Desirable Criteria
- Cert III Horticulture or Parks and Gardens.
- Previous experience within Local Government.
- Previous experience working with water sensitive urban designs.
- MR / HR Truck licence
- Forklift, Dogging, Rigging HRWL
