The Opportunity
As the Team Leader Governance Services, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring Bellingen Shire Council upholds the highest standards of governance and compliance while delivering efficient and effective services to our community. Reporting directly to the Deputy General Manager Corporate and Community, this position offers a chance to lead a diverse portfolio including Governance, Property, Risk, and Claims and Corporate Reporting with three (3) direct reports. You’ll oversee the implementation of corporate governance systems and strategic plans, maintain key registers and policies, manage risk frameworks, and provide expert advice to the organisation.
We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation of knowledge and experience in governance and risk management, paired with a genuine enthusiasm for leadership. Tertiary qualifications in Governance, Risk, Business Management, or a similar discipline are essential, as is recent experience in a governance or compliance role. Your ability to lead and develop a team, provide strategic advice, and embed effective governance practices will set you apart. Experience in local government or a strong understanding of the NSW Local Government Act 1993 would be highly valued but is not essential.
In this role, your success will depend on your ability to build positive relationships, work collaboratively, and manage multiple priorities with professionalism and attention to detail. You’ll be an exceptional communicator with advanced report writing and policy development skills, coupled with the ability to inspire and empower your team.

Annual salary of $95,322 to $108,644 (plus super).
