The Opportunity
As a Student Cadet Planner, you will report to the Coordinator Planning Assessment where you'll undertake program tasks to contribute to the development and implementation of planning projects, policies, local and regional strategies and plans and the assessment of local development applications. You will also:
- Gain an understanding and experience in the assessment of development applications consistent with relevant policies and procedures, legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Assist in responding to verbal and written requests for advice concerning development matters
- Participate in an efficient and effective lodgement and duty town planning service
- Observe, gain experience, and assist in legal matters with senior officers
This position involves an important interface between Council and community and provides an opportunity to contribute to promoting a positive image to the public.

What you'll need to succeed (Essential Criteria)
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Planning at an accredited Australian university.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative team player - positive attitude and ability to work with in a team environment
- Organised and self-motivated - experience in planning and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
- Friendly and professional customer service approach - a focus on clear communication and positive community interaction.
- Capable of managing a busy workload while maintaining attention to detail
- Eager to learn and grow - genuine interest in developing new skills and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Motivated and results driven - solid academic record and a willingness to take initiative
- Current Drivers Licence (Class C)
