About the role

This position is a full time role in the Development and Compliance team and is based at Council’s Administration Office located in Moruya. You will provide high level advice and assessment on planning and regulatory matters to ensure compliance with Council policies and statutory requirements in the protection, preservation and enhancement of the natural and built environment. Your main duties will include:

  • Co-ordinate and carry out development assessment work, provide advice and mentoring to staff in the assessment of applications and development issues.
  • Liaise with developers, Council officers, Government agencies and the community providing advice and information relating to planning, building and environment policies and practices.
  • Maintain the Approvals database and prepare reports for meetings and forums.
  • Provide advice in relation to Complaints and Service Requests.  
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of Policies and Guidelines.

Salary Information

Total remuneration for the role is in the range $114,239.33 to $126,260.71 gross per annum consisting of:

  • $102,457.34 to $113,238.30 base salary
  • $11,782.59 to $13,022.41 superannuation (at 11.5%)

A satisfactory outcome as a result of a National Criminal History Record Check is required for appointment to this position. A fully maintained Council leaseback vehicle (including full private usage) is also available!

About you

To be our successful candidate, you will have substantial experience and expertise in town and environmental planning and tertiary-level qualifications relevant to the field.  You will be a strong communicator with the ability to convey detailed information in a clear, timely manner and understand the importance of operating in accordance with Council policies and standards. Your application should further demonstrate the following: 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of planning, and environmental legislation and extensive experience, ability and competence which demonstrates a high level of independence in solving problems and using judgement specific to the work being performed.
  • Computer literacy with specific expertise in MS office and GIS mapping.
  • Considerable and successful experience in negotiation/mediation and problem solving.
  • Application of interpersonal skills and the principles of good customer service as relevant to the Development Services Unit.
