The Opportunity
Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Site Supervisor, Lithgow Solid Waste Facility to join their team in Lithgow, NSW.
Reporting to the Waste & Recycling Manager you will be responsible for the day to day operation and control of Council’s Lithgow Solid Waste Facility. The position is required to ensure the site meets all legislative requirements and that site operations are undertaken in a manner that maximises the efficiency and effectiveness of safety and environmental performance, resource recovery, cost control, income generation and client satisfaction.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Effectively manage the day to day operation of Lithgow Solid Waste Facility in accordance with statutory requirements, EPA guidelines and Council Policy, Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program, and Operational Plan.
- Ensure site operations focus on maximising resource recovery and preserving landfill airspace.
- Ensure compliance with management systems and documentation
- Ensure integration of quality, environmental and safety performance into all activities by following systems, procedures and documentation for operation of the site, ensuring compliance with Council’s Management Systems, Policies, Protocols, EPA requirements, EEO, WHS Act and Regulations and SafeWork guidelines.
- Provide leadership, direction and mentoring to site staff.
- Ensure all staff are suitably skilled and competent and, where required, receive appropriate training to develop a highly competent multi-skilled team able to demonstrate and perform to defined competency levels.
- Manage interaction and enhance relationships with all internal and external stakeholders and ensure that all dealings and interactions are carried out in a manner that is consistent with Council’s customer service standards and commitment to providing a high level of customer service and satisfaction.

About you
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Diploma) in relevant discipline or extensive industry experience.
- Relevant experience in landfill management, waste operations, resource recovery, logistics or similar
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated commitment to waste avoidance and resource recovery
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders (such as Council staff, contractors, and community members), with particular experience and skills in dealing with conflict resolution and negotiation.
- Experience in the preparation and monitoring of operational budgets
- Demonstrated computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Work Health & Safety and Equal Opportunity principles/practices
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of honesty and integrity
- Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence
In addition, an ideal candidate would have:
- Operational and maintenance knowledge of landfill equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation and guidelines which impact on waste management.
- Proven business management experience and commercial focus.
- Familiarity with recovered materials markets.
- Experience in Quality/Environmental Management Systems
