About the position
Narromine Shire Council are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced applicant for the Senior Ranger position.
The objective of this position is to:
- Coordinate, supervise and control Ranger Services to ensure effective compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations and Industry standards.
- Provide a senior specialist and technical hands-on operational service in responding to the range of Environmental, Nuisance and Companion Animal Complaints; and
- Deliver a high level of Companion Animal Services to customers through the efficient management of Council’s Animal Shelter.
To be successful in this position you will need to have:
Essential
Demonstrated capability, typically 5-7 years in the following areas:
- Providing staff supervision, including mentoring support, promoting team effectiveness and continuous improvement within the team
- Applying professional interpersonal skills in all internal and external customer interactions including negotiation and conflict resolution
- Ensuring regulatory compliance in an operational environment including investigating and resolving a range of Environmental, Nuisance and Companion Animal complaints
- Promoting and delivering Companion Animal Services, including the efficient operation of the Animal Shelter, to a range of customers
- Project planning and management processes including leading and participating in a range of environmental and companion animal awareness and education programs and projects
- Identifying risk and applying risk management processes
- Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or relevant experience.
- Class C NSW Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing.
- Computer skills, including use of online databases and Microsoft Office.
- Capable and confident in handling dogs, cats, horses, cattle and other livestock.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers.
- Penalty Infringement Notice training (PINs)
Desirable:
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current Traffic Controllers Blue Card (Stop/Slow)
- Microchipping Implementation Certificate
Special Conditions:
- The position will involve exposure to deceased or injured animals and untreated animal waste.
- Participate on Council’s after hours On-Call Roster when required.
- This position may require work on weekends and public holidays. Appropriate penalty rates per the current award will be applied accordingly.
Note: A National Criminal History Record Check is required for this position.
The details relating to this position are:
- The position is graded 14 within Council's salary structure
- The salary range is from $86,083 - $97,396 per annum plus on call allowance and superannuation. The salary step is determined by an annual competency assessment.
- 38 hour working week applies.
- 9 day fortnight. Rostered Day Off every second Monday.
- The opportunity for a leaseback vehicle is available for this position.
- Employment conditions are as per the Local Government (State) Award
