Senior Finance Officer Walcha Council

Walcha Council are looking for a skilled and experienced accounting / finance person to join our team and provide vital services to the Walcha Community. With a view to increasing our resources in the Finance area to meet upcoming challenges, expansions and funding, you can play a vital role for Council and the Walcha region. The Position

This is a permanent full-time position, helping us maintain and improve our strong financial process and functions and meet future targets. A mid-level role, requiring report and budgeting preparation, and accurate processing of day to day, monthly and periodic transactions.

The position is responsible for maintenance of Council financial systems, and making valuable contributions to our continual improvement program. The Senior Finance Officer assists the Finance Manager in tasks like budget preparation and monitoring, auditing, strategic financial decision making, and providing financial guidance to all aspects of Council’s business.

About You

You will hold relevant qualifications or industry experience in Finance and/ or Accounting, and ideally have experience in Local Government. You will be equally at home with daily, monthly and annual transactional recording and reporting as well as providing advice and assistance in longer term aspects of Council’s financial systems and processes.

You will work well with our team, and contribute to the cultural development of the Finance Department on our journey to becoming a friendly and cohesive, expert team that is improvement driven and solutions focussed.

You will ensure that Walcha Council fulfils our responsibilities under the relevant Acts, Legislations and Policies, and that we continue to provide best practise activities in alignment with the latest financial standards & guidance.

What we Offer

This is a permanent full-time position (35 hours per week) with a negotiable (for the right candidate) starting wage of $1639.70 (gross per week) based on the Local Government (State) Award 2023.

Depending on your qualifications and the expertise that you can bring, Council is prepared to be negotiable on the terms and conditions of this position.
