The role & you
Are you an expert in weed identification and invasive species management? Do you have a strong understanding of the Biosecurity Act 2015 and a passion for protecting our environment? Are you an excellent communicator and strategic thinker? If so, we want you on our team!
As a Senior Biosecurity Officer you will lead biosecurity inspections on public and private land across the MidCoast, and ensure that projects are followed up to ensure sustainable outcomes are achieved. You will engage with landholders and businesses, providing education and building capacity to promote biosecurity best practices across the community.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional negotiation and conflict resolution skills and will have the demonstrated ability to establish cooperative relationships with landholders and other stakeholders. Additionally, they will demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring others within the biosecurity team to foster a collaborative and knowledgeable work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- To undertake activities in identification, inspection, monitoring and control of priority biosecurity species on public and private land.
- Ensure compliance with the Biosecurity Act 2015, including taking legal action and issuing notices during situations of non-compliance.
- Engage with stakeholders to build awareness of biosecurity and weed management matters.
- Provide education and support to landholders and businesses to strengthen their biosecurity practices.
- Conduct fieldwork related to weed management projects.
- Maintain records of works completed, write investigation reports, and contribute to strategies, grant funding applications, and programs relating to biosecurity.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in weed identification and invasive species management.
- A strong understanding of the Biosecurity Act 2015.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Confidence in enforcing biosecurity regulations when required.
- A passion for educating and building capacity within the community.
- The ability to balance fieldwork with administrative duties.

Salary: Commencing salary $83,460 plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience).
Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
