The Resource Recovery Unit is responsible for the management of waste and resource recovery services. This includes the management of waste collection and disposal, which is made up of collection services involving recycling, waste, organics and bulky goods, the provision of community waste education, the provision and management of waste disposal and resource recovery services, and the planning, design and delivery of waste infrastructure under the Waste Master plan. 

About the role:

  • assist in managing the operational interface of Council’s resource recovery operations ensuring legislative compliance, best practice management and operational environmental performance
  • assist to develop, implement, and monitor systems to improve resource recovery operational efficiency at the Scotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre
  • assist in the implementation and promotion of waste disposal, recycling and waste minimisation initiatives to achieve Council’s objectives
  • utilise project and contract management skills and experience for the delivery of projects for waste and recycling services and infrastructure delivery projects
  • oversee and manage the provision of waste collection and processing contracts 
  • provide technical advice to the Unit Coordinator Resource Recovery on alternate waste treatment technology, resource recovery, landfill, transfer station design and operations, and waste collection services
  • develop, manage and deliver projects in the Waste Master plan.

We are seeking:

  • relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • project management experience and skills
  • strong communication skills
  • understanding of waste facility operations and contract management skills
  • well-developed written and verbal communication skills

This position is based at the Resource Recovery Centre Administration Centre – Stott’s Creek and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Mandatory:

  1. Relevant Tertiary qualification and demonstrated extensive experience in a similar role.
  2. Demonstrated high level of competence in Project Management and the ability to manage projects simultaneously.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of and expertise in current practices and priorities relating to waste Management, and the application of continuous improvement.
  4. Demonstrated high level of competence in Contract supervision for the delivery of capital works waste and recycling infrastructure projects.
  5. Well-developed written communication skills including the ability to write in a clear, fluent and concise manner, produce written communications that are appropriate and readily understood by the intended audience and organise information in a logical sequence.
  6. Hold a Current Drivers Licence - Car or Light Rigid or Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination.

Desirable:

  1. Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of waste management strategies to improve resource recovery and minimise waste to landfill.
  2. Demonstrated competence in monitoring environmental protection relating to the management of an operational resource recovery and or landfill facility.
  3. Demonstrated competence in management of landfills and associated infrastructure to promote best-practice waste management.
  4. Effective analytical, problem-solving, and investigatory skills which will be used to develop new operational techniques, policies and guidelines for Council waste management.
