The role & you

MidCoast Council's Water Management and Treatment (WMAT) department are responsible for our drinking water sources, water treatment, sewerage treatment, ​effluent management, and laboratory services. This department is highly focused on regulatory compliance in reporting to Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Water, NSW Health and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA). In addition to our Bootawa and Nabiac Water Treatment Plants, WMAT is also responsible for water treatment operations in Stroud, Bulahdelah, Gloucester and Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest.

The Process Operator contributes to planned and unplanned maintenance of MidCoast Council's water treatment plant operations. This role will undertake treatment plant inspections, water quality sampling, monitoring chemical supplies and storage levels, operational activities of water treatment plants, and transferring and monitoring water using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) network. This position will work at both our Bootawa and Nabiac Water Treatment Plants. As a key role in ensuring the effective management of our water treatment plants and processes, the successful candidate will require broad experience across water process operations, strong teamwork skills, high attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and compliance. Participation in the "on-call" roster is essential after being deemed competent to ensure 24 hour water production is achieved.

What you'll bring

  • Certificate III in Water Industry Operations and / or relevant water trade qualification and / or experience in the water, sewerage, or industrial process industry.
  • Currently hold or willing to obtain: A general construction induction card (white card), first aid certificate, confined spaces certificate, forklift licence (LF), NSW health fluoride training ticket, and chlorine gas handling competency.
  • Competent swimming ability.
  • Current Medium Rigid (MR class) heavy vehicle licence.

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you’ll be required to complete a pre-employment medical check (this will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component).

Salary Package:

  • Salary range circa $63,000 to $74,000 p.a. plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience).
  • A to and from use vehicle (for work use only). 
  • A water allowance of $126.93 per week will also apply. 

Location: Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the Bootawa Water Treatment Plant at 299 Bootawa Dam Road Bootawa and the Nabiac Water Treatment Plant 485 Aerodrome Road Nabiac. 

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
