The East Kimberley

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Planning and Regulatory Services team. You will be responsible for providing efficient, professional and customer focused planning services, which meet all applicable legislative obligations and complement other functions (infrastructure, building, environmental health and local laws) within the Shire.

This role is also responsible for:

  • Provide professional planning advice on matters to the community, Government agencies, developers, and other department on land use planning and development
  • Administering the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme and land Use Control in accordance with Council delegations, planning policies and administrative procedures;
  • Lodge and record development and other planning related applications and subdivision referrals in accordance with relevant legislation and policy;
  • Prepare and present reports to Council on planning matters;
  • Respond to general enquiries related to land use planning and development and the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme, policies, relevant Acts, Local Laws or Regulations;
  • Provide excellent customer service and build and maintain effective working relationships with external customers and stakeholders to achieve Shire goals;
  • Ensure compliance with statutory provisions and technical standards and assist with resolution of planning matters;

Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field and equivalent industry experience and current unrestricted WA Drivers Licence are essential for this role.  You will need to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of relevant and current statutory requirements, Acts and Local Laws within a local government planning context, well-developed interpersonal skills, well-developed report writing skills, sound time management skills and excellent computer skills.

 Location and Remuneration Package

The role will be based from the Shire offices in Kununurra.

An attractive remuneration package will include base salary, location allowance, and 11.5% Superannuation.

This role is fulltime with a remuneration package ranging between $106,000 $112,000 per annum.
