About the Role:
Are you passionate about environmental health and ready to kickstart your career in a dynamic, community-focused role? We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Onsite Sewage Management Officer. This full-time, temporary position (2 years) offers a fantastic opportunity for recent university graduates or students nearing the completion of their degree, though we encourage applications from all qualified candidates.
As an Onsite Sewage Management Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of on-site sewage management systems within our community. the Onsite Sewage Management Officer will provide effective and efficient services to reduce risks to both public health and the environment. This incorporates the administration, implementation and enforcement of Council’s On-Site Sewage Management Strategy.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Audit inspections of on-site sewage management systems in accordance with Environmental and Health Guidelines.
- Encouraging stakeholders to comply with relevant standards.
- Providing assistance and advice on the operation of on-site sewage management systems.
- Handling applications under section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993, addressing waste treatment device installations or alterations.
- Investigating complaints related to effluent surcharge, odours, and pollution incidents, taking action to mitigate environmental harm.

About You:
To be successful in this role, you bring:
- Degree qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or similar disciplines are essential. Applicants who are close to completing their tertiary studies are also encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of the overarching foundations of wastewater treatment and associated environmental health risks will be highly regarded.
- A proactive approach, capable of managing multiple responsibilities, and a commitment to upholding high standards of customer service.
- A passion for protecting public health and the environment, with strong analytical and communication skills.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills including problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution.
- An ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated high level of computer skills. Previous experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) systems advantageous but not essential

If successful in attaining the role you will be provided with:
- A temporary full-time position for 2 years, 35 hours per week with access to participate in our 19-day month RDO system.
- Weekly salary of $1,441.28 to $1,622.18, plus superannuation.
