We are seeking a dynamic and skilled leader to join us as the Manager Development & Compliance in our City Planning directorate, to help Maitland City Council develop and plan for our future!

About the Role

Maitland City Council has an exciting opportunity in our City Planning Group for a Manager Development & Compliance. The role is responsible for the development and implementation of plans, programs, policies and procedures specific to the City Planning directorate.

As a member of the Maitland City Council's leadership team, you will play a key role in driving Council's Delivery Program by providing advice on complex issues, strategy, and operational performance.
Reporting directly to the Group Manager, the Manager Development & Compliances' portfolio includes, but is not limited to:

  • Building Approvals & Certification
  • Community Health
  • Development Planning & Approvals
  • Health & Building
  • Compliance & Community Safety
  • Development & Subdivision Engineering

In addition to managing organisational wide development & compliance programs, providing professional advice, and overseeing departmental projects, the Manager Development & Compliance will take an active role in managing employee performance and development, and will act as a key point of contact between staff and the Executive Leadership Team.

About You

As the Manager Development and Compliance, you will:

  • Be tertiary qualified in Town Planning, Building Surveying, Environmental Health or a related discipline.
  • Possess contemporary industry knowledge and solid experience across a range of Local Government services.
  • Have demonstrated experience in all aspects of project management, including risk management, consultant management & contract management.
  • Have a proven ability to analyse information and prepare reports
  • Possess experience preparing and managing budgets to meet operational and strategic financial targets
  • Demonstrate high level interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to influence outcomes with people at all levels internally and externally.

In addition to the above you will possess previous experience mentoring employees and leading staff in the execution of work targets and objectives. Your values will closely align with Council's Guiding Principles, and you will thrive off the opportunity to drive collaboration, innovation and enthusiasm organisation wide.

Benefits

This is a full-time role with a competitive salary package on offer (including a vehicle), which will be negotiated at time of offer with the successful candidate. Managers are entitled to take special paid leave during the period of Council's annual shutdown over the Christmas period (typically 3-4 days), and an additional five days special paid leave each year for professional development.
