About the committee

The Risk Management and Audit Committee (RMAC) is established as an advisory committee to the City of Palmerston. The Committee is established by Council, pursuant to the Local Government Act 2019 (NT) and Local Government (General) Regulations 2021 (NT) with the key functions:

  • To monitor and review the integrity of the Council’s financial management.
  • To monitor and review internal controls.
  • To make recommendations to Council about any matters the Committee believes may require the Council’s consideration under the above functions.

RMAC consists of a minimum of four members, comprising Elected Members of Council and a minimum of two independent members. RMAC meets at least four times a year and plays an integral role in providing oversight and advice to Council on matters outlined in the Risk Management and Audit Committee Terms of Reference (ToR).

About the role

The Independent Chairperson is expected to have knowledge and experience in financial management and accounting, risk, compliance and integrity oversight and management, internal and external audit functions.

Working collaboratively with the other Committee members, the responsibilities of the Independent Chairperson will include:

  • Discharging the Committee's roles and responsibilities per the Terms of Reference.
  • Setting the annual work program for the Committee.
  • Monitoring internal and external audits.
  • Monitoring Council’s compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Distilling key matters and strategic issues from the Committee meetings.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will:

  • Have board or committee experience
  • Professional qualifications in accounting, finance, law or other related fields, or relevant experience
  • Experience in governance and risk oversight and management
  • Understanding or experience in compliance oversight and management
  • Understanding of internal and external audit functions

Meetings are held at City of Palmerston’s Civic Centre. Committee Members may be asked to participate in additional meetings or activities from time to time. Members receive remuneration for each meeting.
