ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

We are looking for an empathetic, hard working and appropriately qualified individual to join Council's Open Spaces and Reserves team.

Reporting to the Supervisor, this position is responsible for working with a small team to maintain cemetery grounds within the shire and assist in preparing grave sites for services. A key focus of this aspect of the position will be to sensitively and compassionately liaise with funeral directors and family of deceased persons. The position is also responsible for conducting inspections of playgrounds throughout the shire to assess compliance with relevant standards and Council and Insurer requirements.

To be successful you will bring

  • Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council's values of: creative, accessible, respect, energetic and safe.
  • Trade certificate relevant to the position and demonstrated experience working in the horticulture industry.
  • Class C driver licence with the ability to operate manual transmission and a good and safe driving record.
  • Demonstrated experience in the direction and supervision of apprentices and contractors, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Proven good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated well developed customer service skills with the ability to deal with sensitive issues in a diplomatic and compassionate manner.
  • Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction ticket (white card).

The rewards

  • An annual salary range of $63,900 to $73,300 (plus 11.5% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
  • 9 day fortnight working arrangement. Council is currently trialling a range of flexible working options. Full time field staff will have the option to apply to work a compressed four day work week, subject to operational and team based requirements and approval.
