This is a Permanent Full-Time position, salary from $76,076.52 per annum plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).

Are you passionate about native plants and someone who is eager to grow their skillset in horticulture and learn from a team of qualified horticulturalists? We are looking for an enthusiastic entry level horticulturalist to ensure the timely implementation and care of the Living Collections within the Botanic Garden. Your excellent communication and organisational skills will ensure the provision of high-quality Botanic Garden assets through detailed maintenance, construction, customer service and teamwork. ​

​This is a fantastic opportunity for someone starting out in the field who excited to learn, work outdoors and contribute to the development of a Botanic Garden of excellence.​

What you will be doing: ​

  • ​You will be part of a team of horticultural display staff as part of the greater Botanic Garden team, enhancing the values of the site and annexes, and contributing more broadly to the city's conservation, education, recreation, and tourism services. ​
  • Working with the Curator and your supervisor as part of a team to achieve service standards, complete projects, assist customers, and maintain physical assets. ​
  • You will be responsible for programmed maintenance, horticultural activities, and small landscape construction projects. ​
  • Your tasks will be operational and varied including, specialised horticulture, plant and turf maintenance, renovations of existing garden beds, plant displays, minor irrigation requirements and plant pest and disease management. You will also support events on site. ​
  • Interact on a regular basis with council staff, volunteers, and the public. ​
  • You will be dedicated to the safe and efficient operations of the Botanic Garden and Annexes.

  • You will be a highly motivated team member, who will be committed to help create an extraordinary Wollongong.​
  • You will have a genuine Interest in horticulture and would like to further develop and grow your early career in horticulture.​
  • You will enjoy a variety of horticultural maintenance and construction work, with an eye for detail, excellent presentation, and excellent customer service focus.​
  • You have ​high standards of service delivery within a Botanic Garden or open space setting.​
  • You enjoy being a part of a diverse team with a commitment to staff wellbeing, safety, training, and competency.​
  • This would be especially suited to some-one highly motivated, with a passion for native plants.​
  • You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
