Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer 2 traineeships, where we will support you to gain hands-on experience while completing a Surveying and Spatial Information Services (Spatial Information Services) Diploma.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are at the forefront of technology, constantly advancing with innovative tools and techniques. The demand for skilled GIS professionals is rapidly increasing, offering exceptional career growth and advancement opportunities.

In this traineeship, you’ll develop highly transferable skills that can open doors to diverse industries and career paths, including IT, strategic planning, and infrastructure delivery.

In order to meet the requirements of this traineeship, successful completion of training and tertiary studies is required.

What you'll do:

  • Gain a deep understanding of Council’s GIS Applications across Council’s town planning, engineering and information technology teams. 
  • Learn to manage, capture, and maintain planning and corporate spatial data within Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Gain experience in providing data analysis, geospatial advice, and developing processes to support effective decision-making.
  • Contribute to meeting corporate and external needs for spatial information through hands-on training and mentorship.

What's on offer:

  • 2 full-time positions for a maximum period of up to 36 months, commencing February 2025.
  • A starting base salary of $45,682 per annum up to $62,358 per annum +11.5% super. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.
  • Council will cover the associated course costs.
  • Paid work placement while you learn.
  • 70 hour fortnight, 9 day fortnight.

We are seeking:

  • A willingness to learn and be mentored by an expert GIS team.
  • A keen interest in geospatial technologies, with a passion for working with cutting-edge GIS tools and techniques.
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide clear and concise advice for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work affectively in teams and individually.
  • Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Aptitude to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. 
  • A positive attitude and self-motivated.
  • Current drivers licence.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
