About the role

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership and enterprise stewardship across Carers ACT, with accountability for finance, digital capability, governance, enterprise risk, compliance and property oversight.

As a key member of the Executive Team and trusted adviser to the CEO and Board, the CFO supports sound decision-making through strong financial management and integrity, effective systems, robust risk and compliance frameworks, and clear, actionable advice. The CFO plays a key role in ensuring Carers ACT is financially sustainable, well-governed and equipped to operate effectively in a complex Aged Care, NDIS and government-funded environment.

About You

You are an authentic, values-driven financial executive with a proven ability to lead financial operations in complex organisations that combine high-quality service delivery with strong community impact. You bring strategic vision, sound commercial and financial acumen, and the ability to build a high-performing, engaged and inclusive organisational culture within the teams you lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across finance, IT, governance and quality and enterprise risk functions to support organisational objectives and sustainability. Together these teams comprise 8 staff.

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting to support evidence-based decisions.

  • Lead strong financial governance, controls and compliance with AAS, statutory, funding and regulatory requirements including ACNC and government grant acquittals.

  • Oversee and develop contemporary IT systems that support service delivery, data integrity and operational efficiency.

  • Embed robust risk management and compliance frameworks, including internal controls, policy oversight and assurance processes.

  • Provide high-quality strategic advice to the CEO and Board and lead engagement with the Board’s Finance and Risk Committee.

  • Lead, develop and inspire high-performing teams, fostering accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • CPA or CA qualification, with substantial senior financial leadership experience.

  • Strong financial management capability, including accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial controls and organisational sustainability.

  • Demonstrated experience in government-funded, grant-based or similarly complex service environments, ideally within the not-for-profit, community, aged care, health or disability sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of financial governance, Australian Accounting Standards, risk management, compliance and audit requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality financial, risk and strategic advice to CEOs, executive teams and Boards.

  • Ability to analyse and communicate complex financial and risk information clearly and support sound organisational decision-making.

  • Experience overseeing ICT, digital systems and associated cyber, data and information governance risks.

  • The successful candidate must hold, or be able to obtain, a National Police Check, Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration and NDIS Worker Screening clearance.
