MSA employs current education undergraduate students as Assistant Teachers to assist teachers, groups of students and individual students in the delivery of quality education.

About Mastery Schools Australia
A small, not-for-profit Middle School (Years 4-10) dedicated to teaching and supporting students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from mainstream schooling due to learning difficulties or academic stress. We provide delivery of the full Australian Curriculum, including the general capabilities with a focus on explicit instruction pedagogy (direct instruction) / Mastery Teaching.

Unlike most mainstream schools in Australia, our school offers academic success through specific literacy and numeracy programs targeted to the individual needs of the student through evidence-based intervention programs. Each campus is capped at 300 students, with a teacher to student ratio of 1:6 in each classroom, ensuring nobody gets left behind.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with in-class teaching duties under the direction of a Teacher.

  • Facilitate and support small groups as directed by a Teacher.

  • Keep records of support strategies and curriculum adjustments for student's Individual Learning Plan.

  • Provide administrative support for Teachers when necessary.

  • Playground supervision, as well as accompanying students on excursions as required.

About You

  • Able to successfully engage young people in relevant and dynamic learning.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Able to develop sound working relationships at all levels.

  • Able to work as a team as well as autonomously.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate education course.

  • Hold a current and valid Blue Card.

  • No adverse findings resulting from criminal history checks.

  • (i.e. AFP National Police Check for working with children or no unsuitable findings by the Department National Investigations Unit).
