About the role
Contributing to an Extraordinary Wollongong, we aim to reduce our ecological footprint and promote sustainable initiatives. Join our multi-disciplinary Environment Planning Team and lead our sustainability efforts and programs. Learn more about what we're doing here:

In this key role, you will develop strategies and policies and support the delivery of our Environmental sustainability projects and programs. This includes our Sustainable Wollongong 2030: A Climate Healthy City Strategy and Climate Change Mitigation Plan. Our Environmental Strategies guide and support us to make Wollongong a sustainable and net zero emission city. Bring your passion and expertise to work towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
You will work collaboratively with a variety of community groups, and a range of stakeholders to integrate sustainable practices, reduce our environmental impact, and promote a culture of sustainability within the organisation.
This is a permanent full-time position, salary starting from $90,176.28 per annum, plus superannuation. (salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).
What you will be doing
This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a difference and contribute to Council's environmental sustainability strategies! This essential role will see you:
- promote and facilitate environmental sustainability, including the preparation of environmental strategies and initiatives
- coordinate and manage the implementation of environmental sustainability strategies and projects
- support the performance monitoring and reporting of our sustainability initiatives
- stay well informed of technical/performance standards and legislative changes in the environmental sustainability field in particular where it is applicable to the local government sector
- actively engage with the community to inform and promote Sustainability programs and projects
- provide technical advice and continually research and apply the principles of environmental best practice to support and promote a culture of sustainability within the organisation
About you
You bring knowledge and experience in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field. You are sustainability-focused and have a strong understanding of sustainability best practices. Along with your experience with data analysis and reporting on environmental metrics, you bring excellent communication and project management skills.
