Orontide is a leading Western Australian company providing specialist engineering, fabrication, preservation, and integrity maintenance services to the Oil & Gas, Mining, Naval Defence, Marine and Commercial Industries.

As a result of continued business growth, an opportunity has become available for an experienced and commercially astute Senior Project Estimator / Planner to join our Blast and Paint Industrial Services Business Unit. The role is ideally suited to a candidate with a strong background in industrial blasting and painting, gained across both workshop and site‑based environments.

This position plays a key role in supporting business development and project delivery by producing high‑quality estimates, tender submissions, methodologies, schedules, and commercial documentation for a diverse portfolio of industrial, marine, and infrastructure projects.

Our business specialises in delivering high‑quality surface treatment and maintenance solutions designed to extend plant and equipment life, improve operational reliability, and reduce lifecycle costs. Operations are supported by a purpose‑built 3,100m² abrasive blasting and painting facility in Henderson, complemented by a wide range of site‑based project works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and competitive estimates for industrial blasting, painting, coating, and preservation works

  • Coordinate and compile complete tender submissions, including pricing, schedules, methodologies, assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions

  • Develop accurate labour hour build‑ups using sound production rate analysis and resource modelling

  • Analyse scopes of work, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation to identify risks and opportunities

  • Develop tender and project schedules using recognised planning techniques

  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing, validate scope alignment, and assess value

  • Support bid reviews, margin analysis, and commercial decision‑making

  • Contribute to post‑tender clarifications and project handover documentation

  • Ensure HSEQ requirements are embedded within estimates, methodologies, and cost models

Desired Tickets & Qualifications

  • Trade qualification (desirable)

  • Formal training in estimating fundamentals and/or cost engineering

  • Project management fundamentals

  • Strong HSEQ awareness, including risk assessment, JHA development, and isolation principles

  • Knowledge of coating systems and surface preparation standards (including NACE terminology)

  • Microsoft Project and/or Primavera planning training

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience estimating industrial services, blasting, painting, coatings, mechanical, or marine projects

  • Strong ability to interpret scopes, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation

  • Demonstrated expertise in labour productivity analysis, resource planning, and cost build‑ups

  • High level of commercial awareness, including identification of risks, assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications

  • Experience coordinating multi‑discipline tender inputs and supporting end‑to‑end bid submissions

  • Ability to manage multiple tenders concurrently within demanding timeframes

  • Experience engaging with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and technical input

Desirable Experience

  • Direct experience in blasting, painting, coatings, or shutdown environments

  • Marine, Defence, or heavy industrial project exposure

  • Experience with estimating software and cost‑modelling tools

  • Understanding of HSEQ cost allocation for high‑risk industrial activities

  • Power BI or similar data analysis capability

  • Background working in fast‑paced, operationally intensive environments
