Tin Shed Distilling Company Pty Ltd trading as Tin Shed Distilling Co. and Iniquity is seeking a professional, creative and experienced Cook to join our team. The position will be located at our restaurant in Nairne, South Australia. 

Position Description:

As our full-time Cook, you will assist the Head Chef in all kitchen operations, focusing preparing and cooking food, quality control, safety, and efficiency, with duties including examining ingredients, operating equipment, seasoning dishes, plating, storing food, adhering to hygiene (HACCP/Food Safety), menu planning and mentoring/training junior kitchen staff. You will collaborate closely with the Head Chef to maintain high standards of quality. Your creative input will also be required occasionally for seasonal menu innovations.

Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cooking and preparing meals from our menu.-  washing, cutting, mixing, seasoning, cooking (grilling, frying, baking, steaming) a variety of dishes.
  • Checking food quality, monitoring dish presentation, ensuring adherence to recipes. Ensuring seamless service and quality presentation for all dishes
  • Meeting dietary requirements of customers- amending dishes for expressed dietary requirements
  • Using ovens, grills, deep fryers, microwaves and other cooking tools and kitchen equipment
  • Portioning food, adding garnishes, gravies and sauces. Seasoning meals correctly and to taste.
  • Maintaining clean workstations, adhering to food safety/HACCP standards, and cleaning utensils/areas.
  • Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities, monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies to restock the kitchen.
  • Preparing food to meet specific dietary requirements (allergies, preferences).
  • Working with Chefs to plan menus and specials
  • Training and mentoring other lower grade kitchen staff

Skills:

  • Proficient in various cooking techniques and familiar with a wide range of cuisines.
  • Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking
  • Understanding of food safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meticulously examine food before it is sent out to customers
  • Ability to taste flavour in food and season accordingly
  • Ability to portion food correctly as per instructions
  • Clear communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of food quality, presentation and hygiene.
  • May be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in a demanding kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work full-time, year-round.

Qualification & experience

Qualifications:

  • A relevant AQF certificate III including at least 2 years of on-the-job training, or
  • A relevant AQF certificate IV, or
  • At least 3 years of relevant, full-time, work experience. 

Work Experience:

  • At least 1 year of full-time, relevant, work experience if formal qualification held
  • At least 3 years of full-time, relevant, work experience if no formal qualification held.
