You will embark on a program of learning and skills development as an active participant across our construction, maintenance and asphalt teams completing general labouring duties ranging from concreting, repair and patching potholes, signage and street furniture maintenance, stormwater drainage and general maintenance on Council's assets and on occasion supporting other Works and Services teams.

This opportunity is open to both school leavers and mature age applicants who are eligible for admission to the Cert III in Civil Construction (General). The apprenticeship will include practical training as well as theoretical requirements supported by TAFE.

This is more than a trade...  On successful completion of the Apprenticeship you will have achieved your Cert III in Civil Construction and have four years practical experience in a variety of civil construction tasks and responsibilities across local government. Our apprenticeships cover theoretical & practical requirements of on the job and off the job training.

Located at the Services Depot in Oak Flats, our Construction team are inclusive and supportive while providing a range of services for our community.

Council's Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee (CAT) Program aims to grow Council's skilled workforce capacity by creating job opportunities and a talent pipeline for specialised roles and to develop future leaders by providing employment opportunity and professional development experiences that support and complement a related course of external tertiary study. Council’s cadets, apprentices or trainees receive ongoing training, guidance and support from workplace mentors while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

  • Temporary Full time up to 4 years (or for the duration of the apprenticeship)
  • 38 hours per week with access to a 9 Day-fortnight
  • Salary range from $584.20 per week (for a 16 year old) up to $803.30 per week (for someone aged 18 or over)
  • Plus 11.5% superannuation
  • On the job training
  • Compulsory course costs are paid by Council
  • Approved leave to attend TAFE
