About the Role

Dedicated to contributing to an Extraordinary Wollongong, this role will lead the Community Services team to operate the Community Transport Service. These services support our community and clients within the Wollongong-Shellharbour areas.

You will ensure these operations are properly supported and executed in an efficient, timely and courteous manner. We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic leaders to join our community support services team. In this role you will be responsible to manage the day-to-day operations of the community transport and social support services. Your highly developed communication and leadership skills and knowledge of the community sector will be essential for managing our programs and services for older people and their carers.

Aligned with our values you will lead this team, you will champion Council's Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging policy where diversity is valued, and employees feel welcomed and that they belong. This will see you implement promotional strategies to improve and enhance these services and infrastructure.

This is a full-time term contract, salary: $ 86,176.27 up to $ 98,533.28 per annum plus superannuation. The position may be required to work across both the Wollongong and Shellharbour offices of Community Support Services depending on operational requirements.

The service is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and Transport for NSW. The position is grant funded up until 30 June 2025 with the possibility of extension subject to confirmation from the funding body.

What You will be doing:

This is a genuine opportunity for you to make a real difference to the community. You will broaden your understanding of the role Local Government plays in our community and assist vulnerable people to live independently in the community and to maintain their social connections. You will also:

  • develop and manage systems and procedures to ensure timely, accurate and courteous responses to all enquiries and requests from external and internal customers
  • monitor and report activity outputs to meet performance targets set by the Department of Health and Ageing and Transport for NSW
  • ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are monitored and met by internal and external stakeholders
  • monitor approved budgets and cost control systems
  • implement promotional strategies to improve and enhance services and infrastructure
  • contribute to the day-to-day operations of the team to ensure the consistent delivery of quality services
  • contribute to projects and achieve expected business/community outcomes within agreed timeframes

About you:

Along with your experience working with a diverse range of individuals, you bring extensive leadership, influencing and coaching skills. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment with a range of internal and external clients, ensuring a team-based culture. Passionate about your community and maintaining co-operation, you bring the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate. Streamlining processes, and ensuring effective and efficient services, you mentor your team to meet the goals of these services and projects.
