The Opportunity

Wollongong City Libraries (WCL) is a vibrant and dynamic service provided by Wollongong City Council. Our team is integral in fulfilling Council's mission of fostering an informed, engaged, creative, and connected community. We offer a wide range of services across our seven library locations that cater to the diverse needs of our community, promoting reading, lifelong learning, creativity, and inclusion.

As part of the Community Connection and Learning team, this role supports the creation on Extraordinary Wollongong by contributing to the design and delivery of high-quality programs and services across all WCL locations. Additionally, this role will see you collaborate with community partners and external stakeholders to promote diversity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging for all library customers. You will provide direct customer service, program delivery, and outreach activities, building networks and relationships across all teams and sites. By working proactively with partners and stakeholders in the community, you will help develop and deliver impactful service outcomes.

This is a permanent full-time position, salary from $82,811.50 up to $92,780.60 per annum plus superannuation (salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This position may include some weekends, and is initially based at Wollongong Library; however, you may be required to work across any of our seven libraries across the Wollongong Local Government Area, dependent on operational requirements. Applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.

How you'll make a difference

As a valued member of our Community Connection and Learning team, this role will see you enhancing our community's connection to learning and ensuring our library services are inclusive, innovative, and impactful. You will also:

  • Plan, develop, promote, and deliver library and information services, programs, and events that reflect and enhance the informational, cultural, recreational and educational needs of the local community
  • Keep abreast of current trends, issues, and new technologies to ensure our services and programs remain relevant and engaging for our target audience
  • Conduct targeted outreach activities to promote library services to the broader community
  • Deliver and promote library and information services that meet the diverse needs and interests of our community, fostering literacy, creativity, and lifelong learning
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of children's, youth, and adult programs through community consultation, collaboration, program evaluation, and staying informed about emerging trends in library practices
  • Connect with, build, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including community groups, organisations, and staff, to best represent Wollongong City Council's diverse communities

About you

You are passionate about community engagement and lifelong learning, and you thrive in a collaborative environment. Holding a diploma in library and information studies or an equivalent qualification, you will have a solid foundation in the principles and practices of library services. You will bring a proven ability to build successful partnerships with a range of stakeholders, collaborating effectively to develop and deliver outcomes-based programs that benefit our community.

Your commitment to service excellence will shine through as you motivate and train staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality library services and programs. Your ability to identify priorities, meet deadlines, and work quickly and accurately under pressure will be essential in this dynamic role.
