The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Casual Tourism Officer to join their team, this offer will suit those who are looking for flexibility and for a great work-life balance. 

Working as part of a team, you will ensure the first interaction with our customers over the phone or face to face is positive and professional, with a focus on providing accurate and relevant tourism information, ensuring our tourists walk away with an understanding of the local area and a desire to explore and engage with the community. 

Located at the Seven Valleys Visitor Information Centre, the position is required to provide a high level, quality customer service and meet set sales targets in order to increase visitation and occupancy to local tourism product.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Deliver tourist information and resources to visitors, as part of front line customer service, in a timely, friendly, efficient and professional manner
  • Process council cash payments
  • Help to maintain stock and resources
  • Perform clerical duties including data entry and word processing
  • Assist with general administration duties
  • Assist in organisation of promotional activities and event co-ordination

The Seven Valleys Visitor Information Centre operates between 9:30am and 4:30pm, 7 days per week including public holidays. We are looking for someone that has availability for weekend work as well as during the week.

About you

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Commitment to the principles of excellence in customer service
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with well-developed administrative skills
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to liaise with the general public and high quality written skills
  • Ability to provide a flexible approach to work practices and hours within the provisions of a 7 day roster
  • Ability to prioritise work schedules to ensure set outcomes are achieved
  • Relevant experience in customer service
  • Cash handling experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to meet set target sale commissions

In addition, an ideal candidate would have experience in:

  • Tourism or hospitality qualifications
  • Previous experience in the tourism industry
  • Knowledge of the tourism attractions of the Seven Valleys region
