About the traineeship:

Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer a Traineeship with our Building and Environmental Health team. As a Trainee, you’ll gain hands-on experience while completing your final year of an Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying.

As a Building Surveyor Trainee you will assess all types of building applications within statutory timeframes and ensure compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations, National Construction Code (and referenced Standards), Local Laws, Polices and other relevant Legislations, and under guidance, conduct site inspections.

In order to meet the requirements of the Traineeship, successful completion of training and studies is required.

What you'll do:

  • Provide administrative support to the Unit.
  • Provide advice and guidance to residents and developers regarding the application of statutory codes and Council policies which regulate development, building, plumbing and drainage processes.
  • Assist Building Surveyors to carry out assessments, determinations and inspections required to process applications associated with new buildings and structures, extensions and commercial developments.
  • Develop strong technical skills and gain valuable hands-on experience.
  • Receive mentorship from the Manager Building and Environmental Health and experienced Building Surveyors to help you succeed.

  • A full-time position for a maximum period of up to 24 months, commencing February 2025.
  • A starting base salary ranging from $45,682 to $62,358 per annum +11.5% super. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.
  • Council will cover the associated course costs of your advanced diploma.

We are seeking:

  • Applicants must have completed their HSC.
  • Strong academic record – particularly where relevant to the position and Building Surveying.
  • Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work affectively in teams and individually.
  • Aptitude to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. 
  • A positive attitude and self-motivated.
  • Current drivers licence.  

Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with the desire to progress and undertake further study to achieve Building Surveyor Practitioner Registration.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
