The Building and Environmental team is seeking two Building Surveyors, permanent full-time roles working a 9-day fortnight.

About the role:

  • carry out development and construction certificate assessments, determinations and inspections for new and existing buildings and structures within the Shire to promote a safe and desirable built environment
  • provides advice and guidance to be provided to residents, developers and Council staff regarding the application of statutory codes and Council policies
  • assesses and determines Development Applications for single dwellings and associated structures 
  • assesses applications for plumbing and drainage works related to developments to ensure compliance with AS3500
  • mediate and facilitate solutions between affected parties and the Council regarding development assessment and certification activities.

We are seeking:

  • an accredited certifier Building Surveying restricted (all classes of building)
  • eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyor
  • demonstrate sound working knowledge of Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 as amended, NSW Local Government Act 1993, Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020, Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers) Act 2020 and Regulations and National Construction Code
  • substantial experience in a position of Building Surveyor or Health and Building Surveyor
  • demonstrate well developed competency in the assessment and determination of: Development Applications under the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979, Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and the carrying out of ‘Critical Stage Inspections’ and other building related inspections

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

  • A tertiary qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Registration with NSW Fair Trading as an Unrestricted Building Surveyor (formerly A1) or a Restricted Building Surveyor for all classes of buildings (formerly A2).
  • Proven experience in evaluating and determining a broad spectrum of development and construction certificate applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NSW planning and certification legislation.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Assisting in developing processes and procedures
  • Hold a current Class C Driver’s Licence.
