Term Details: This position is a Locally Engaged Staff position, subject to the Terms and Conditions of Employment for LES in the High Commission of Canada to Australia.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Common Services Officer, the Maintenance Technician provides general maintenance services in properties managed by the High Commission of Canada. This can include performing basic maintenance advise on equipment requirements, oversee contractors, inspect properties and provide recommendations to supervisor, basic moving and set up of furniture or any other items, other tasks as required.
AREA OF SELECTION
This selection process is open to employees currently occupying an indeterminate or term position or temporary employment at the High Commission of Canada to Australia, as well as dependents of Canadian diplomats. Experience
In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required:
- Experience in maintaining residential or commercial building
- Experience in working with tools for general maintenance
- Experience working in a team environment
- Experience working in a client service environment

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Specialized training in plumbing and/or carpentry and/or HVAC system
- Experience with security installations such as gates, motor, keypads and/or CCTV
- Experience supervising contractors
- Basic French (speaking, reading)
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Operational requirements will be assessed on a ``meet/does not meet`` basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.
- Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week
- Full Australian driver’s license
- Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends), sometimes on short notice
- As a member of the Canadian diplomatic presence abroad, there is a requirement to adhere to Canada’s Code on Values and Ethics
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position. They are to be maintained throughout the employment period.
- Valid work authorization:Â Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening:Â Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada. The required level of security clearance must be maintained throughout the employment period.
