About Us

Working from our architecturally designed Administration Building in central Maitland, we are looking for a Junior or Associate Legal Counsel to join our highly skilled and growing legal team to make a true and meaningful impact on our community.

About the Role

As Associate Legal Counsel you will support the Legal Counsel in delivery of in-house legal services by advising on diverse and complex matters in planning, environment, contract and local government law. You will assist with the review, negotiation and drafting of contractual agreements and deeds, as well as the development and drafting of Council policies and procedures.

You will develop strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders across all levels of the organisation and support them by providing efficient, accurate and strategic legal advice and advocacy services. Additionally, this role will allow you to further develop your advocacy skills in the Land and Environment Court and Local Court proceedings.

About You

You will possess qualifications in Law and a current Australian legal practicing certificate. Additionally, you will have a minimum of 2 - 5 years PAE in either an in-house legal role or practising in environmental, planning, contracts or local government law or a combination of these with a desire to develop.

You will have demonstrated advocacy experience and strong technical drafting skills as well as a strategic and analytical mindset and the ability to provide succinct advice on complex matters.

This is a permanent full-time role working 35 hours per week with a competitive salary based on demonstrated competencies + 11.5% p.a superannuation.
