As the Assistant Curator (Glass Collection), you will be responsible for assisting the curation of high quality art gallery exhibitions and collections undertaking administration and research with a particular focus on art glass.

  • Permanent, part-time position available.
  • This position is a job share arrangement, one (1) day per week working Friday of each week.
  • Remuneration package of $579.22 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $695.07 gross per fortnight based on part-time hours of work + superannuation (11%).

This position will be responsible to:

  • Front of House - Oversee the daily operations (Fridays as required) of the National Art Glass Gallery including providing collection information and advice to visitors.
  • Research, curating and implementing temporary art glass exhibition programs including the management and rotation of collections throughout Council’s premises.
  • Obtain relevant information from glass artists, dealers and industry personnel to accurately and professionally document items in the National Art Glass Collection.
  • Undertake research of new acquisitions for collection development including sourcing donations and new collectors/donors to the collection.
  • Assist with exhibition installations in both the main gallery and the National Art Glass Gallery including liaising with artists, dealers, lenders etc.
  • Assist in the promotion of events and educational activities on the Gallery’s program (as required).
  • Undertake records management in the Collection Management System (CMS) database Vernon in object accessioning, provenance, research, condition reporting and curation.
  • Ensure the Glass Gallery maintains a high level of presentation.

As the successful applicant, you will hold:

  • A Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Art Curatorship, Museum studies or Arts Administration or experience relevant to the role.
  • Experience working in decorative art collections with knowledge of contemporary art glass making processes.
  • Experience of curatorial practice and research.
  • Experience in the use of Collection Management System (CMS) databases (experience with Vernon is highly desirable).
