About The Role
This is an Internal Fixed-Term opportunity until 1 June 2025.
This role supports the care and maintenance of Ballarat’s urban forest, working as part of a skilled and supportive team. You’ll help deliver high-quality arboriculture services, respond to extreme weather events, ensure workplace safety, and provide excellent service to the community
Key Responsibility Areas
Cooperate with and assist work colleagues and supervisors Carry out tree pruning in accordance with AS 4373-2007 Apply well considered judgement in relation to the management of structural defects Evaluate tree risks and seek advice before acting where the best solution maybe unclear Carry out tree removals as part of programmed or emergency work Assist with tree planting as directed Operate chainsaws, trucks and EWP safely and in accordance with all relevant Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) Use and update tree asset management systems in accordance with organisational standards Abide by all City of Ballarat policies and procedures in accordance with Councils values Assist other team members and supervise apprentices and trainees
About You
You’ll have formal qualifications in arboriculture/horticulture or equivalent experience, a minimum two (2) years practical experience in the arboricultural field and an ability to demonstrate knowledge of industry standards.
You’ll have demonstrated skills in use of light and medium mechanical plant, identification of tree health, structure, hazards and species, common pest and disease identification and control and knowledge of AS 4373 – 2007 Pruning of Amenity Trees and CODIT tree pruning practices.
You’ll have Well-developed communication and problem-solving skills to ensure clear instructions to staff, advice to supervisors and information to clients or the general public and clear and concise writing skills for the maintenance of records, communications and reports.
You’ll Hold The Following Licenses And/or Certificates
Current Victorian Drivers Licence with MR truck endorsement Chainsaw Level 2 Certificate Elevating Work Platform High Risk Licence Cert II ESI Powerline Vegetation Control (UET20312) Traffic management & traffic controller certificate First Aid Level 2 Certificate Demonstrated ability in tree assessment and the use of a range of arboriculture machinery and vehicular plant
