First Year Apprenticeship and Traineeship - 2025 Intake

Central Coast Council is excited to offer Apprenticeship and Traineeship opportunities for motivated people who have an interest in gaining hands on work experience and technical training in our varying trades. The objective of our program is for you to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to complete the program, with a view to establishing a career in your preferred trade.

About the program

Apprentices and Trainees commence in their first year and are trained under the instruction of a suitably qualified supervisor. You may be required to rotate between job locations to experience a broad range of work experience for the duration of the program. Council offers an excellent development program with exposure to many elements of the job throughout the course.

The Central Coast Council Apprenticeship and Traineeship programs require successful applicants to enter a training contract for:

  • Four (4) years commencing in January 2025 (Apprenticeship) or
  • Two (2) years commencing in January 2025 (Traineeship).

You will be provided with individual training plans and are required to undertake and complete a trade qualification at either a NSW TAFE campus or through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). 

We encourage applicants who have a passion for the trades below and for developing their knowledge and skills to put in an application.

  • Apprentice Mechanic Heavy Vehicle (Erina)
  • Apprentice Electrician (Erina)
  • Apprentice Fitter & Machinist (Charmhaven x 1 and Erina x 1)
  • Water and Wastewater Trainee (Mardi)
  • Trainee Crew Member Water and Sewer (Woy Woy)
These positions are required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.
 
To be successful in an Apprenticeship or Traineeship, you will have:
  • Minimum education requirement - Year 10 School Certificate or Record of School Achievement (RoSA) or equivalent leaving certificate. Please note: Current Year 10 students are eligible to apply and if successful in selection it will be based on the provision that they complete the Year 10 RoSA and provide documentation prior to commencement in position.
  • A General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or equivalent OR are willing to obtain this card.
  • A current Class C or Provisional P1 or P2 Driver's Licence or similar or are willing to obtain at the legal age to acquire licence.
  • A keen interest in developing your skills in a trade area as listed above.
  • Gained practical experience and/or have knowledge or be undertaking additional relevant learning in the area.
  • A passion for the importance of being a team player in a highly team focused organisation.
  • A commitment in completing the required studies.
  • A willingness to learn from others to further your career.
  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to provide the best quality service to the Central Coast.

Other important information

  • The salary range for these positions sit between $479.94 to $823.08 per week ($25,024 to $42,915 per annum) dependent on age and school qualifications + 11.5% Superannuation 
  • These are temporary full-time roles
  • These roles will be able to access a 9 day fortnight
  • Roles are located at various Central Coast Council locations
  • Successful candidates may be required to have vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be assessed based on information provided in the application. Council receives numerous applications for apprenticeships and applicants need to meet the essential criteria and clearly establish their aptitude for their chosen role. Applicants successful at progressing to interview will then be invited to attend a group and panel interview which will be conducted during a weekday. Applicants shortlisted for interview will be advised via phone and e-mail.
