Job description
Join the AFULE – Make a Difference in Rail Workers Conditions, Safety & Union Growth!
The Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Employees (AFULE) is a proud and growing craft union, representing Train Drivers and Guards nationally since 1861 and across QLD since 1921.
As we expand our membership and strengthen our strategic goals, we’re looking for an experienced All Round Union Organiser to be based in South Brisbane to join our close-knit and dedicated team.
As an AFULE organiser you will be doing varied and interesting work as part of a small team under a branch executive/divisional council open to new ideas and supportive of change.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting AFULE members by:
- Engaging with workers to grow membership and build a stronger union presence through workplace organising, digital campaigning and content creation.
- Building on existing workplace delegate structures.
- Providing representation and advocacy for members on a range of issues
- Championing Workplace Health & Safety initiatives and ensuring our members’ rights are upheld.
- Collaborating with AFULE leadership to shape policies and advocate for safer working conditions.
- Managing priorities independently while thriving in a team-driven environment.
We value our team and offer generous conditions, including:
- Competitive salary to be negotiable based on skill set and experience.
- 15% superannuation
- RDOs and 15 days personal leave annually to support work-life balance.
- A variety of tasks and the genuine ability to be creative and try new initiatives whilst being fully supported throughout.
- Personal office and inner-city car parking.
- Flexible work arrangements, including options for a nine-day fortnight and remote work.
- Salary sacrifice benefits, thanks to our partial benevolent institution status.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Strong union and/or community values—a passion for worker advocacy.
- Organising and Campaigning experience.
- A passion and knowledge for Digital and Social Media Platforms.
- Knowledge of the QLD Workplace Health & Safety Act and other Industrial legislation.
- The ability to travel remotely from time to time.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivation & time management and the ability to work autonomously within a small, supportive team.
- The ability to obtain Right of Entry permits
- Work within the Rail Industry is desirable though not essential.
