About the position:
The Aboriginal Engagement Officer will build and strengthen sustainable relationships between the City of Greater Geraldton and the Aboriginal community and organisations. The position is responsible for promoting Aboriginal community and cultural development projects, awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal culture within the organisation and the wider community.
The Aboriginal Engagement Officer will be a key point of internal consultation and advice on engagement and any matters of significance to the Aboriginal community. Additionally, the position will take the lead in the implementation of the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan 2024 - 2026, including reporting and evaluation in line with the City of Greater Geraldton Strategic Community Plan 2017 – 2027 and future evaluation and review.
This is a part-time role working up to 45.6 hours per fortnight.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead the implementation of actions within the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2024 - 2026, coordinating with relevant departments and stakeholders while ensuring alignment with the City's strategic goals, as overseen by Coordinator Community Development.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on the progress of the RAP implementation.
- Support and assist the ongoing evaluation of community partnerships and strategies to ensure continuous improvement of consultation and service delivery.

Position requirements:
The City is looking for a passionate candidate who understands the needs of Aboriginal community and has experience implementing effective reconciliation strategies. This role requires someone who can navigate cultural sensitivities with tact and confidence, and who has a proven track record in delivering Reconciliation Action Plan initiatives. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to fostering reconciliation and community development aiming to make a meaningful impact within our community.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
This position has a salary starting from $84,883 per annum pro rata or $42.9568 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
