About the traineeship:

Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer a Traineeship with our Water Treatment and Catchment team. As a Trainee, you’ll gain hands-on experience while completing your Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.

The Catchment and Land Management traineeship is an opportunity to develop the required skills and qualifications to become a Catchment and Land Management Officer, with a specific focus on integrating Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, knowledge and skills. This role would suit someone who has a desire to collaborate with community and work on country and in the field.

In order to meet the requirements of the Traineeship, successful completion of training and studies is required.

What you'll do:

  • Bushland restoration and revegetation of key areas within the catchment.
  • Management of environmentally and culturally significant sites and areas.
  • Weed and pest control.
  • Water security and fire risk controls, including fire access trails.
  • Water quality risk controls.
  • Timber plantations and koala food tree plantations.

What's on offer:

  • A full-time position for a maximum period of up to 24 months, commencing February 2025.
  • A starting base salary ranging from $32,973 to $62,358 per annum +11.5% super. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.
  • Council will cover the associated course costs of your Certificate III.
  • Paid work placement while you learn.
  • 70 hour fortnight, 9 day fortnight.

We are seeking:

  • Applicants that identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • High school education to Year 10
  • An interest and ability to work outdoors and perform manual tasks. 
  • Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work affectively in teams and individually.
  • Aptitude to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. 
  • A positive attitude and self-motivated.
  • Current drivers licence.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
