The Role
As a Commercial Services Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting TasWater’s commercial customers by ensuring trade and tankered waste activities are managed safely, compliantly, and efficiently. In this customer‑centric position, you will assess complex applications, coordinate scheduled inspection programs, and apply the trade waste management framework to protect our people, assets, and environment. You will collaborate closely with developers, councils, internal teams, and customers to provide expert advice that enables compliant development, informed decision‑making, and positive engagement across Tasmania.Â
Key responsibilities:

Assess and process complex trade waste and development applications, ensuring compliance with TasWater requirements and relevant legislation.Â

Manage and deliver the scheduled trade waste inspection program, including on‑site verification of pre‑treatment systems and accurate documentation of outcomes.Â

Lead contract‑related activities, including negotiating trade waste consents, agreements, , pre‑treatment requirements, and pricing where appropriate.Â

Provide guidance, training and mentoring to colleagues and stakeholders, contributing to improved capability, consistent practices, and knowledge sharing across the team.Â

Build and maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships, delivering clear, timely communication that supports compliance and positive customer experiences.Â

Maintain high‑quality data and reporting in TasWater systems, supporting compliance, billing accuracy, trend analysis, and regulatory reporting.Â

Contribute to improvements in trade waste policies, processes, risk assessments, and customer education initiatives.Â

What we're looking for
We’re looking for a proactive, self‑driven Commercial Services Specialist who can confidently lead the delivery of TasWater’s commercial trade waste programs. You will bring a strong customer‑centric mindset, the ability to understand customer perspectives, and the judgement to balance regulatory requirements with practical solutions. This role requires someone who is comfortable working autonomously, coordinating team workflows, and applying technical expertise to support safe and compliant trade waste outcomes across Tasmania. Your ability to build effective working relationships, communicate clearly, and manage complex operational programs will be essential to your success.Â

A self‑starter mindset with the ability to work autonomously, manage your own workload, and lead components of the inspection and compliance program with confidence.

A strong customer‑centric approach, including the ability to put yourself in the customer’s shoes to provide guidance, education and solutions that balance customer needs with regulatory requirements.

Demonstrated experience in customer and stakeholder relationship management, supported by excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Proven capability in contract management and negotiation, with the ability to assess trade waste consents and apply relevant frameworks and policies.

Technical knowledge of trade waste, tankered waste, sewage collection and treatment systems, supported by a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.

The ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams while also exercising independent decision‑making within delegated authority.Â

The Details
This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport and attracts a salary of $103,701.29 - $109,462.48 (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable dependent on experience.  Â
